Ewart Carson was born in Liverpool and educated at Liverpool College and the University of St Andrews. A Chartered Engineer by profession, he worked for Philips before moving to City University London. There he was Professor of Systems Science, headed the Centre for Measurement and Information in Medicine and was Director of the Institute of Health Sciences. He worked for 40 years with medical colleagues in the UK, across Europe and beyond in applying maths, IT and engineering in medicine and healthcare (with honours including Honorary Membership of the Royal College of Physicians as well as major international recognition). Currently Emeritus Professor of Systems Science at City University London, he has published extensively (13 books and over 300 papers). He moved to Ludlow (and semi-retirement?) in 2001. Currently he is Churchwarden at St Laurence’s Ludlow as well as chairing the Governing Body at Ludlow College. Other interests include music, Italian culture and language and running (no further than the half marathon!).
