Ludlow is often called 'the perfect historic town' There are nearly 500 listed buildings and the original medieval street pattern survives. Ludlow Castle is one of the most interesting castles in the Welsh Marches. It is over 900 years old and features architecture from the Norman period onwards. The town is constantly in demand to provide the backdrop for period drama, The recent acclaimed BBC productions of Moll Flanders and Tom Jones both had scenes filmed within the town walls.

The Ludlow Festival, held annually for a fortnight in late June and early July since 1960 is one of the major arts festivals in the country. Recently it has been in danger of being upstaged by its own phenomenally successful Food and Drink Festival.
