Confirmed - Ludlow College learners enjoy and achieve……

‘Outstanding’ for ‘learners enjoy and achieve’ was one of the top grades awarded to the College during its recent Ofsted inspection in October.  The College ‘fosters an ethos of caring and mutual respect in which all individual learners are valued, ensuring both learners and staff enjoy their time at the College’.

The College was praised for:

  • maintaining above average success rates; well above average on courses leading to AS and A Level qualifications;
  • consistently good teaching, learning and thorough assessment practices;
  • very good progress made by learners on most courses;
  • high standards of learners work in almost all areas;
  • outstanding provision;
  • significant impact of enrichment (extra curricula activities) on learners’ personal and social development;
  • a well established ethos of caring and mutual respect;
  • excellent collaborative and partnership work;
  • having a significant and positive College role throughout the community


Ludlow College has been congratulated on becoming the top college in the county with regard to students progress, making good and often very good progress compared to their starting point.  The percentage of students achieving ‘high’ grades is well above the national average; with the majority of students gaining their preferred university choice. Inspectors were very impressed with the high standard of learners work, the rapidly gained confidence and acquisition of high level skills of analysis and evaluation. 

The arts subjects were particularly praised, with outstanding achievement and standards, with impressive levels of creativity shown throughout students work. 

Students on vocational courses gain outstanding levels of technical competence and their ability to study independently is well developed. 

The students on the health and social care courses achieve outstanding results, with success rates for adults 30% above the national average.  This and the high professional standards of all staff have ensured this area is identified as a national example of good practice by inspectors. 

The Professional Pathway Programme was particularly praised for the work it undertakes to support Science and Maths students progressing onto medical and veterinary Degree programmes.
