Sports student Jessica Moore’s rapid ascendancy to the top in Clay Target Shooting, continues to gather pace. After rising through the ranks of the local junior shooting team, Jessica’s hard work was rewarded when she was selected to represent Great Britain at the European Championships for shooting, held in Ghedi , Italy, earlier this year.
Jessica’s progression is even more impressive considering that she has only very recently switched to the new, more demanding style of target shooting that features at the championships.
Jessica commented, “ It was really hard! The competition was stiff and the targets were much faster and made of a harder plastic, which meant that the white disc didn’t always register a hit, even if you had!
“But we won! There were 3 people in the GB Ladies Team and I came second overall out of my team. The combined score for our team was 74 points out of 120. The Italian team came second with a score of 70 points so it was a very close run thing! The Spanish team came third with a score of 59 points.”
“We were presented with the gold medal and a celebration trophy by the President of FITASC (Federation Internationale de Tir Aux Sportives de Chasse), the Italian Team Manager and the Spanish Team Manager. We had a fantastic time and it was an experience that I hope to relive when I try for the World Championships and then the Olympic Team.”
Not one to rest on her laurels, Jess has also won a bronze medal at last week’s English Open held at the Invicta Gun Club in Kent.
Sports tutor Jonathan Britton commented, “We are all absolutely thrilled that Jess has done so well in her most recent competition, and I can speak on behalf of all her teachers in saying that we were delighted to discover how talented she is when it comes to shooting! She certainly has put a lot of hard work and effort into training this year, and we are proud to be teaching BTEC Sport to not just a member of Team GB, but a European champion! We will certainly support her over the next two years in preparation for her forthcoming events, and also with her dreams for Rio 2016.”
