Students in Show Stopper!

As we welcome in another new year, it’s once again time to feel the melody of life and spend a little time with the vibrant, talented students of Ludlow College as they bring another classic musical to Ludlow.

This year’s show is Anything Goes, the classic 1930s romantic comedy set on a transatlantic liner. Students have been rehearsing since September and are once again eager to get in the limelight. They are supported by a live band this year, including the College’s remarkable multi-instrumentalist and ukulele virtuoso, Michael Adcock, on double bass.

Anything Goes combines some of the most iconic showpieces and songs in musical theatre, such as Anything Goes itself and I Get a Kick Out of You, with some timeless humour from the original story by PG Wodehouse, creator of the immortal Jeeves and Wooster novels.

Marni Ashworth, a second year Drama, Sociology and Photography A Level student, sums up the show: “Anything Goes is a ludicrous romp through a cruise liner of uncertain fate, peppered with farce that will set your evening gowns swishing with laughter. It delivers something like an all-singing variant of the Titanic – albeit with considerably higher hopes! The student cast infect the performance with a sense of exuberance and glee that is sure to thrill even the most landlubber-ish curmudgeon. ‘But what of the mysterious appearance of Gabriel?’ I hear you cry? Find out at the show in March!”

Rory Naylor, who has recently had an offer to read Medicine at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, plays the lead role of Billy Crocker. “He’s a vagabond turned villain who will have to disguise himself as anything possible in order to pursue his true love and assist celebrity singer Reno Sweeney in a music-filled, hilarious trip of a lifetime.” Adding, “With wit, fun and one-liners galore, this is sure to be a worthwhile watch for anyone!”

The show runs from Thursday March 23rd to Saturday 25th March, with evening performances at 7:30pm, plus a Saturday matinee at 2:30pm.  Tickets are available from Ludlow College Reception, in person or by telephone (£10 / £7 concessions).
