Top Photographer Awards Ludlow Student
Award-winning British photographer Martin Parr awarded a runner-up prize to Ludlow College student Gemma Moore on his recent visit to the Ludlow Assembly Rooms where he was giving a talk on his career. The competition on ‘Social Documentary’ was organised by ‘thephotospace’- a Ludlow-based gallery dedicated to the art of photography. Gemma’s entry ‘The Fair 2’ was selected from over 300 images and was amongst the ten prizes awarded.
Gemma, who is 17 years old and from Wigmore, is currently studying for A Levels in Photography, Fine Art and Sociology and took her images at the May Fair which visits the town each year. She carefully selected the images for the competition from a wide selection of work and commented, “This award has given me more confidence in my work and I am pleased my image appealed to Martin Parr. His use of colour is really exciting and that is something I tried to echo in my own image. Interestingly, I did enter a second image which I preferred. This taught me that it can sometimes be hard to assess your own work and what other’s like is not always what you expect. After college I am planning to study art at degree level so I am really excited to have my work recognised like this.”
